THIS ROLE
Supports Norvado’s broadband network operations across an expanding service territory. This role focuses on maintaining the performance, reliability, security, and availability of the company’s broadband network infrastructure. The position serves as a technical resource for network operations, infrastructure enhancements, service continuity, and cybersecurity initiatives, helping ensure the secure and dependable delivery of customer and business services. Working closely with internal teams and technology partners, this role plays a critical part in supporting Norvado’s technology strategy, operational objectives, and commitment to exceptional service.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Broadband Network Specialist your duties and responsibilities will include:
• Engineer, implement, maintain, and support broadband network infrastructure, including central office, transport, access, switching, power, and associated support systems.
• Ensure network availability, reliability, and service continuity through proactive monitoring, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and timely restoration of service interruptions.
• Serve as the primary technical resource for Level 3 incident resolution, complex service issues, and escalated network problems; coordinate with internal teams and vendors to drive issues through resolution.
• Plan, document, communicate, and execute network maintenance activities, configuration changes, upgrades, cutovers, and technology migrations in accordance with established procedures and change-management practices.
• Analyze network performance, capacity, utilization, and infrastructure lifecycle requirements; identify and implement improvements that enhance service quality, resiliency, scalability, and operational efficiency.
• Evaluate, test, recommend, and deploy network technologies, platforms, equipment, and solutions that support business objectives and long-term strategic network initiatives.
• Maintain accurate and current network documentation, including diagrams, asset inventories, configurations, operational procedures, restoration records, and capacity-planning information.
• Implement and support cybersecurity controls, secure network configurations, access management, vulnerability remediation, monitoring, incident response, backup, disaster recovery, and configuration-management practices in alignment with Security & Technology Operations governance, policies, and standards.
• Maintain and support critical network infrastructure systems, including power, battery, generator, grounding, HVAC, environmental monitoring, and related facilities equipment necessary to ensure network resiliency.
• Support the planning and technical execution of network expansion projects, central office deployments, infrastructure modernization efforts, system integrations, and network migrations.
• Stay current on emerging technologies, industry trends, regulatory requirements, and cybersecurity developments affecting broadband and telecommunications networks; apply relevant knowledge and best practices to assigned responsibilities.
• Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, promoting safe work practices in all work environments.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
• Knowledge and skills standardly acquired through an associate degree in telecommunications, information technology, electronics, or a related field or the equivalent training and experience.
• Two years of related work experience and/or training are required.
• Knowledge of digital CO and remote switching equipment, test gear, and associated material.
• Knowledge of networking standards, protocols, troubleshooting, and routing.
• Understanding of schematics, blueprints, and circuit diagrams and their application to CO design.
• Familiarity with regulatory and industry standards and specifications.
• Computer literacy including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and software.
SKILLS, ABILITIES, QUALIFICATIONS OR EXPECTATIONS
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to provide exceptional attention-to-detail and ability to accurately work with numbers.
• Ability to analyze complex issues and conduct comparative analysis of multiple solutions.
• Must have excellent multi-tasking skills and be able to prioritize and perform a variety of concurrent tasks.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Must be able to respond to on-call or emergency maintenance situations that occur outside of normal business hours. 24 x 7 x 365 uptime requirements.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality with regard to company and customer data.
• Must comply with all RUS specifications, industry standards, safety rules and regulations, and company policies.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
• This position operates primarily in an office environment and involves regular computer-based work, system monitoring, technical troubleshooting, documentation, and employee support.
• Occasional visits to central offices, data rooms, network facilities, and other operational locations may be required to support technology infrastructure and security systems.
• Exposure to moderate noise, electrical equipment, temperature variations, and confined technical spaces may occur.
EQUIPMENT & TOOLS
• Daily use of computers, mobile devices, printers, fax machines, copiers, etc.
• Use of diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and basic hand tools to support installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities while adhering to established safety procedures when working around telecommunications, network, server, security, and electrical equipment.
CUSTOMER SERVICE/INTERACTION
• Daily phone, written, and face-to-face contact with employees throughout the company to exchange information.
• Weekly phone, written, and face-to-face contact with vendors, contractors, and consultants to complete job tasks
OTHER
• Frequent travel by vehicle required.
• On-call rotation required.
• Occasional overnight travel may be required.
• Occasional overtime required.
