What is an Optical Network Terminal (ONT)?

Used in fiber-to-the-premise systems, the ONT is the modem for services.  It is used to terminate the fiber optic line within the premise and transpose the incoming light beams into telephone, internet and television services.  The ONT requires A/C power to function, and therefore will be located near a power source within the premise.  For the ONT to function during a power outage, a battery backup will be needed and is customarily installed by a Norvado Technician when services are first connected to fiber optic facilities.
